Local networker reaches finals of ‘Photographer of the year’

Category: Networking - Award

ebn (Effective Business Network) Bishop's Stortford member and business owner Maria Michael has earned herself a place in the final of The Societies of Photography, 'Photographer of the year' awards. The prestigious awards celebrate photographers whose images had achieved a Gold Award in the 2018 monthly competition. The winners will be announced at the Awards Presentation evening, which is part of a four-day annual International Photography Convention, held in London.

Maria is the owner of Detheo Photography, situated on the Hertfordshire and Essex borders, very close to Bishop's Stortford. Detheo Photography provides a truly bespoke photographic service. Whilst covering a wide range of services, Maria has built a strong reputation for her work in specialist pet photography, lifestyle and portraits, and commercial and corporate commissions.

As well as being shortlisted for the awards on 18th January, Maria has been invited for the second consecutive year to host her own masterclass, titled 'Introduction to pet photography'. She is covering: why this genre is not just a simple add-on to a business, but one that should be respected and that demands a level of commitment; and how to start a pet photography business, from the planning process through to different ways of marketing. She will also be sharing some of the experiences that she has had, and lessons that she has learnt along the way.

Having reached the finals, Maria said: "I am very proud to have been shortlisted for this award. To have been nominated in itself is a huge achievement, and I am keeping all fingers crossed for the awards' presentation evening on 18th January, when the winners will be announced."

"Each month, photographers from all over the world submit images into a competition with around 24 categories, and those images are judged by a panel of judges. Those that achieve Gold are then put forward to be judged again for POTY (Photographer Of The Year) nominations. I believe that, in 2018, there were just over 12,000 entries over the entire competition, and only three nominations are put forward for each category."

Managing Director of ebn Glenys Chatterley said: "Bishop's Stortford members meet on alternate Thursdays at Café Mocha, and we were delighted to hear Maria's great news; we really couldn't be prouder!

"The whole Group enjoy celebrating each other's achievements, and everyone at ebn wishes Maria continued success."

"Networking is about building relationships to help businesses grow and become stronger, and this includes celebrating successes with other local businesses."
